Shri Atul Kamalakar Desai, aged 57 years, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, Maharashtra, which he completed in 1989. He began his career with NTPC as part of the 14th Batch of Executive Trainees in the same year.

Following his training, he was posted to Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station, where he served for four years in Turbine Maintenance. In 1994, he was transferred to Kawas Gas Power Station and contributed for over a decade, primarily in the operations of GE Frame 9E machines.

In 2005, with the incorporation of Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private Limited (RGPPL), he was entrusted with the critical responsibility of taking over the assets of the erstwhile Dabhol Power Company. Over the next 15 years, he played a pivotal role at RGPPL, serving as both Operation Head and Maintenance Head, and ensuring operational excellence and reliability.

In 2020, he moved to Ramagundam Super Thermal Power Station, where he served as General Manager (Operation) and subsequently as General Manager (O&M) from 2021 to January 2024. He then took charge at Unchahar as GM (O&M) from February to July 2024.

From July 2024 to October 2025, he served as Head of Project at Faridabad and Badarpur, overseeing critical project operations and driving organizational performance.

On 4th November 2025, Shri Desai assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private Limited (RGPPL), bringing with him over three decades of rich experience in operations, maintenance, and project leadership across India’s power sector.
